Counselling & Psychotherapy
Eilís has completed a BSc (Hons) degree with PCI College/Middlesex University London to qualify as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor. She sees clients face-to-face in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo or online.
The BSc degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy is centred on an integrative model inspired by an underlying humanistic philosophy. She studied various counselling theories, including Person-Centred, Existential, Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic and other approaches. She has completed an advanced module in CBT, studying the third wave of cognitive behaviour therapy with a focus on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
She is a pre-accredited member of the IACP (Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy). She has completed several Continuing Professional Development Courses (CPD) on Trauma Recovery, An Embodied Approach to Trauma, Gender, Sexuality, Relationship and Diversity (GSRD), Writing Therapy and Decider Skills - using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to teach children, young people and adults the skills to recognise their own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, enabling them to monitor and manage their own emotions and mental health.
Yoga
Eilís’ love of yoga started sixteen years ago due to surgery on her right hip. Yoga was recommended to her by a physiotherapist to help her with mobility after the surgery. While it aided with healing her injury, yoga also benefited her greatly with daily stress and sitting at a desk. Gradually, over time, her yoga practice became more about the body, mind and spirit.
In early 2018, she felt a calling to learn more about yoga; she trained to become a teacher and completed her 200 YTT with Naomi Sturdy and Sibylle Dallman at The Art of Teaching Yoga. Eilís has since gone on to deepen her study in Pranayama, Meditation and Mantra with Sian Pascale at The Light Collective, Restorative Yoga with Ciara Cronin at The Yoga Room and a range of further yoga courses on Awakening the Chakras with LucyBloom Yoga, Yoga Philosophy and Sutras with Naomi Sturdy.
She teaches yoga with passion, creativity, and warmth from the heart. She guides students into the yoga postures with mindful movement and awareness, using the yogic breath, meditation, mindfulness, compassion, and loving-kindness.
She offers classes on the mat and chair to kids and restorative yoga.
Mindfulness & Positive Psychology
Having experienced the daily benefits of mindfulness for over thirteen years, she had a desire to learn how to teach mindfulness and pass this on to other people. In 2017, she studied for a Diploma of 500 hours in Mindfulness and Positive Psychology over 15 months with The Irish Mindfulness Academy and is excited to teach mindfulness to help one person at a time and to give people a pathway to a better quality of life, reduced stress and greater emotional and mental well-being.
Her courses include a blend of evidence-based tools and learnings from Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuroscience and Positive Psychology learnings to support the Mindfulness practice.
Eilis has also completed QQ1 Train the Trainer Level 6 certificate on training, delivery and presenting.
She offers community workshops in person throughout the year.
